Awakening Hope

Waiting for something that you really really want can be excruciatingly hard. As in. Super.

Yesterday, I attended mass at Our Lady of Hope. They have a guest priest whom I find utterly amusing because he just kept on singing lines from different songs, inserting it into his homily. And i thought, he must have been doing this frequently because he’s already paos.

Anyway, one statement in his homily really got into me. He was talking about faith. Like how many Filipinos have the Catholic faith, and then making us think if what we have is really faith in the true sense of the word. And then he goes on to say that real faith will make us abandon everything to Him. We will risk everything because we believe. Pray as if everything depended on God. And work as if everything depended on you. That is how our everyday should be.

So, in these moments/days of waiting, I calm my anxious self. Jesus never arrives too late. When all human hope is gone, which is usually the case, we must resort to supernatural hope. Sometimes, it may appear too late. But our faith and hope must extend that far–until it seems too late. As in really, abandon and put our trust in God. Do you know the story of the man in Capharnaum? He pleaded to Jesus and humbled himself. Jesus agreed, but He took His time ion going to the man’s house. HE TOOK HIS TIME! How anxious must the man be at this point! His only hope, taking his time. Excruciating. When Jesus arrived, the daughter already breathed her last. And it seemed like nothing can be done anymore. This is when He acts. And you know the rest of the story.

Jesus precisely waited until it is “too late” in order to teach the man, and the people around, that supernatural hope must remain when all else seem to fail. He continues to teach us now. He teaches ME NOW.

But if I “fail” now. Then please let me not lose my peace. And as St. Josemaria said in The Way, Convice yourself of this truth: your success–this time, in this matter–was to fail. Give thanks to our Lord…and try again! You haven’t failed; you have gained experience. On you go!

ON YOU GO!!! :D
